Research funding
Many German organisations support foreign scientists and researchers by awarding scholarships, fellowships and prizes. The key funding organisations are the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Numerous other organisations also exist besides these three.
German Academic Exchange Service / Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD)
The DAAD is one of the world's largest and most respected intermediary organisations. The DAAD promotes the international relations of Germany's higher education institutions by funding the exchange of students and scholars and by running international programmes and projects. In 2003, the DAAD funded in total around 30,000 students, academics, researchers and scientists world-wide.
